Description



Interruptibility is a hallmark of HCI research dedicated to answer a very simple question: Can we detect when a person is available to be interrupted? In this project, we explored and developed a method for detecting interruptibility states while interacting with a smartphone. We explored different variations: Using the current activity of the user, using the transitions between activities and finally we explored a multi-device approach. The publications generated from this project have inspired others to take a deeper look into interruptibility and other facets of it like recognizing boredom or content-engagement. More recently, it has been proposed the use of interruptibility methods for detecting receptivity: A state in which a patient is available to receive, make sense and use a health treatment.
